Joanna

Joanna Zeller Quentin grew up in Naperville, Illinois, the horse crazy daughter of two decidedly un horse crazy parents. She began riding at an early age, and quickly began spending every available minute at the local barn. At the age of eleven, she completed her first portrait of a beloved horse for a friend, and her career was born. Over the next few years, she continued drawing portraits of the stable horses for close friends and fellow riders, and discovered she had a knack for capturing a particular horse's personality. "It was always just a matter of looking," she says. "The tilt of a head, the position of the ears, the look in an eye. Most horses will tell you who they are if you give them a chance." At the age of 17, she was accepted to the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, where she studied drawing and painting for the next four years. Forced to put her riding on hold throughout much of college, she rediscovered her love of the sport and the animal through painting. Blending a rider's knowledge of anatomy, tack and equine behavior with an artist's understanding of paint and ink, she creates portraits that have elicited tears of joy from her clients and admiration from fellow horse lovers.

Her equestrian work has been collected internationally by private parties, as well as appearing yearly in a number of prestigious juried art shows and competitions, and on the cover of magazines such as "Chronicle of the Horse". Joanna currently lives in Dallas, Texas with her husband, three dogs, one cat, two parrots and fish, and continues to ride hunter jumpers and dressage at the local barn. She is available for commissioned portraiture and illustration projects, and always has a limited number of originals and prints available. In addition to equine work, she also paints a wide variety of wildlife, birds, and domestic pets. Check out Joanna's gallery!

DONATION PRINTS: Joanna supports equine rescue and other animal organizations across the country. A portion of the sales price from each print designated as a DONATION PRINT will benefit an animal rescue group. Joanna was recently juried into AUAR, a select group of professional artists and photographers who are dedicated to making life better for animals in need. Through private and public sales and art auctions, these artists dedicate a portion of the proceeds from each sale to help an animal rescue organization. Membership is extremely limited, and Joanna is proud to be a part of such an amazing group committed to improving animal welfare. More information about AUAR may be found at www.artistsunitedforanimalwelfare.org.
